Monitoring of long range transboundary air pollution, greenhouse gases, ozone layer and natural ultraviolet radiation

The main objective is to quantify the levels of air pollution in the artctic, and to document any changes in the exposures. It includes the necessary components to address impacts on ecosystems, human health, materials and climate change.

  • Main variables in precipitation: Inorganic compounds (SO4, NO3, NH4, Na, Mg, Ca, K, Cl, pH, conductivity)
  • Main variables in air: Inorganic compounds (SO4, sNO3, sNH4, Na, Mg, Ca, K) with filterpack.
  • Organic mass, SO4, NO3, NH4 in PM2,5 with a ToF-ACSM monitor
  • O3, NOx, CO
  • Heavy meatals : As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb, Ni, V, Zn.
  • POPs in air: Heksahlorcykloheksane (HCH, 2 isomers), chlordanes (4 isomers), heksachlorbenzene (HCB), DDT (6 isomers), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB, 32 congeneers) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs, 38 components).
  • Greenhouse gases: CO2,CH4, N2O and ca 20 Halogenated compounds 
  • Optical properties of aerosols with Aethalometer, sun photometer (PFR) and aerosol optical depth (AOD).
